food. places. people. things. ramblings

A very pleasant evening

I went to the wedding dinner of my ex-colleague last night. It’s been quite a long time since I went to one and I actually miss going to one. Not that I miss having my dinner stretched over 4 hours, but missing the food! Haha, glutton me. At Chinese wedding dinners, the dishes would usually be quite predictable with some variations sometimes, but they will always be served in the same sequence.

When I was there, I was pleasantly surprised to see many familiar faces. I sometimes feel skeptical about attending such events, especially when it will be filled with people you have not seen for a long time, because there might be awkward moments of silence.

But no I did not have to resort to playing Tiny Tower on my phone last night. It felt good instead. It’s been about more than 6 years since I left the company, but the people I met still remember me, or at least my name! We caught up with what each other has been doing and, I do not know about the others, but for me, not being in the same company any more made the conversation more enjoyable somehow. I was happy just to see the people and talk to them, nothing to do with anything else.

The wedding went really well too. The couple looks handsome and blissful. We did not have to wait long between serving of dishes, the speeches were not boring, the video montage was well-made and I was glad I had a great evening.
